What a week! I am so honoured to have spent every day rooted within community-led educational projects aka supplementary schools.
As Prof. Li Wei said today ‘Community schooling has a massive socio-economic impact on this country. They have been crucial to Britain’s community cohesion’ (Learning a Home Language: The Ramgarhia Story)
As Farooq Mulla said on Thursday ‘To be rooted is perhaps the most important and least recognised need of the human soul’ (Teaching in Islamic Supplementary Schools course at Minority Matters)
As YLN pupil said last Saturday ‘YLN helped me know who I am. The teachers made me realise I am smart’ (Youth Learning Network 10 year celebration)
And as NRCSE put in our Erasmus bid submitted to EU on Tuesday ‘Young people attending supplementary school have proved to be excellent ambassadors on role of heritage learning in developing academic skills and confidence’
