Introduction to the Quality Mark – Safeguarding and Good Management

Day 1: a full-day workshop for local authority staff, supplementary education providers, other support agencies.

  • –      Why is focus on quality assurance necessary and useful?
  • –      Safeguarding and Good Management – the implementation of policies and procedures
  • –     What are community-led supplementary schools/OOSS already doing to ensure safe and effective practice?
  • –     The NRCSE Quality Mark – a developmental tool
  • –     Supporting locally-driven safe practice in supplementary schools/OOSS
  • –     The Good Management Pack

Learning outcomes:

  • –     Get an overview of the whole 360 degree quality assurance process
  • –     Gain an understanding of the proposed Safeguarding Code of Practice for Out-Of-School Settings
  • –     Consider different ways of engaging supplementary schools/OOSS and how to encourage them to review their practice to ensure activities meet local and national safeguarding requirements
  • –     Consider how to make the process developmental
  • –     Practise ways of being a critical friend.
  • –     Supporting/Compiling a Good Management Pack
  • –     The role of the Registered Quality Assurance Mentor* and what is a witness statement?
  • –     Agree standards expected in management files and discuss any issues arising from management file assessment

Day 2 : Assessing the effectiveness of educational provision in supplementary schools

On day 2, we will consider further the developmental aspect of the Quality Mark process and how it supports sustainable, positive engagement with community-led provision.

  • –     Gain an understanding of the eight standards for quality supplementary education
  • –     Learn what takes place at a Quality Assurance Recognition Meeting
  • –    The role of the Educational and Governance experts
  • –    Consider ways to engage local E,ducational Experts
  • –    Practice compiling a portfolio of evidence and understand how best to present good practice
  • –    Review the Quality Mark report and how to use it to promote excellence
