The Quality Framework: Bronze Award

The Quality Framework will take your school through ten recognised standards in education. The first step is to demonstrate a solid foundation of good governance by completing the Bronze Quality Framework Award. The Bronze Award shows that a supplementary school has all the basic policies and procedures in place to run safely and effectively. You must achieve the bronze level before you can progress to the silver, gold and special distinction levels.

The achievement of a Bronze Award will be based on

  • Guided self-assessment (via the NRCSE website code of practice assessment)
  • A document check, (this can be done by your mentor or by uploading school management file for scrutiny by the NRCSE Quality Development Advice Team) and
  • A visit from a registered Quality Framework mentor to supplementary school in session

To present your school for the Bronze Quality Framework Award please complete the code of practice assessment and upload your management file OR download the NRCSE Quality Framework registration form here and ask your mentor to submit their witness statement.

Quality Framework support

John Lyon’s Charity funded mentor supporting a supplementary school.

Schools may feel that they are meeting the standards at the higher levels and should be able to go straight to the silver or gold level. It is essential that the building blocks are in place first. The Bronze award covers all of the basic policies and procedures expected in an organisation delivering activities to children. Once your school is recommended to NRCSE for the Bronze Quality Framework we will notify you within four weeks to let you know if you have achieved the award or if there are areas which need addressing. Your mentor will also provide guidance on what you need to do to obtain a Silver or Gold Award.

We aim to provide guidance and samples where possible for schools. NRCSE members have free access to the online self-assessment tool, the manual ‘How to deliver quality supplementary education’ telephone/email support and a wide range of template and example documents, including those listed below. For help with logging in or becoming a member of NRCSE, please visit the membership pages.
